The finished assignment shows pages 46 and 47 of the Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Clowns and Clowning. We have a description of 1980’s US digital clown Eugene Cross.
The entry shows also a still from his 1983 video performance ‘Modern Mimes – a Visual and Sensory Piece for Big Top’. I have searched on YouTube for a full performance on this, and though I see it referenced, I cannot find a full video. According to reports, the performance ran to 7 minutes, 40 plus seconds. An individual VHS cassette was available to buy, which included interviews, reactions, a showing in a live big top in Sacramento, California – complete with audience faces watching etc. A behind the scenes ‘making of’ segment was also included on the cassette. The total VHS cassette ran to 44 minutes.
